THINKING ALOUD by Barrie Purnell

THINKING  ALOUD by Barrie Purnell

The tunes you hear brought to you in the wind

The rhythm of raindrops on the leaves

This is all part of life’s song to you

It’s there to help you to accept and to believe

The sound of waves breaking upon the shore

The cry of gulls borne on the summer breeze

This is all part of life’s song to you

It’s there to put your tormented soul at ease

The rippling of a stream across the stones

The splash of a fish taking a fly

This is all part of life’s song to you

It’s there your secret desires to satisfy

The swoosh of snow slumping off a tree

Ice crystals crackling beneath your feet

This is all part of life’s song to you

It’s there to take down some of your conceit

The laughter of children as they play

The half heard conversation on a phone

This is all part of life’s song to you

It’s there to let you know you’re not alone

The sound of choristers at evensong

The ring of bells drifting to you from afar

This is all part of life’s song to you

It’s there to make your peace with who you are

The drone of faces speaking in a crowd

The hum of traffic from an unseen road

This is all part of life’s song to you

It’s there some of life’s mysteries to decode

The voices of lovers who are long since gone

That come slipping and sliding into your dreams

This is all part of life’s song to you

It’s there to remind you of what might have been

Those soft sounds at night you can’t identify

The rumble of thunder from a far off cloud

This is all part of life’s song to you

It’s just the sound of nature thinking aloud
